The Book Fair is here!

Our Fall Book Fair is going strong! There are a lot of great new books this year, and the students are really loving them all! This week's post (and next week's too I imagine) will have an extra helping of new books as a result of my Book Fair findings.

Here's the round up of new books being added to the library collection this week. They're all books from the Book Fair!

New Picture Books

Monsters Love Underpants by Claire Freedman & Ben Cort. I read this to 4K last week, and they flipped out over it. This book is really funny, a little silly, and has a lot of rhyming words for kids to pick out. There are other books in this series. Click the link to find out more.

The Pout-Pout Fish Goes to School by Deborah Diesen. This is a new book in the Pout-Pout fish series. Students here love The Pout-Pout Fish and The Pout-Pout Fish in the Big, Big Dark.

Ninja Red Riding Hood by Corey Rosen Schwartz. This fractured fairy tale is a companion book to The Three Ninja Pigs (a Book Fair book last year).

Check out the book trailer below...

New Chapter Books

Owl Diaries: Eva Sees a Ghost by Rebecca Elliott. This is book 2 in the Owl Diaries series. I added book 1 to the library during last year's book fair, and it has been very popular with the students. This is a Branches leveled reader. It appeals to 1st and 2nd graders and is on a 2nd grade reading level. The Branches books are a great starting place for those students wanting to move up to chapter books. We have some other Branches books in the collection as well. Ask me! I'll help you find them.

Race the Wild: Rain Forest Relay by Kristin Earhart. This is the first book in the Race the Wild series. It appeals to readers in grades 2-4, and is on a 4th grade reading level.

"When Russell entered the race, he knew it was going to be a wild ride. Especially the first race course! He'd been studying up on the Amazon's animals and culture forever. But nothing could prepare him or his teammates for what they'd find in the rain forest: raging rapids, poisonous venom, and sneaky competitors who'd do anything to win. Can the red team work together to make it to the finish line in one piece? Each chapter in this action-packed adventure series is bursting with totally true facts about wild and wonderful creatures, dangerous habitats, maps, and more!" Image and blurb from goodreads.com

New Nonfiction

Fly Guy Presents: Bats by Tedd Arnold. First graders at JES LOVE Fly Guy. This nonfiction Fly Guy book appeals to K-2nd graders, and is on a 2nd grade reading level.

"Learn all about bats with Fly Guy! It's time for a field trip! Fly Guy and Buzz are going into a bat cave to learn all about bats. With straightforward text, humorous asides, and kid-friendly full-bleed photographs throughout, young readers will love learning all about these nocturnal creatures. Award-winning author/illustrator Tedd Arnold really brings nonfiction to life for beginning readers! And this book has eye-catching holographic foil on the front cover!" The Magic School Bus Presents: Ocean Adventure. A lot of our students love The Magic School Bus, but a lot of the books are on a higher reading level that they have difficulty with. This book appeals to 1st and 2nd graders and is on a 2nd grade reading level. Plus, it has a fun combination of illustrations and photographs that kids enjoy.

"Now early readers can take a ride on the Magic School Bus! With the help of Ms. Frizzle, young readers can develop their reading skills while they pick up fun facts about the world's ocean. Ms. Frizzle's class will teach you everything you ever wanted to know about the deep sea through this engaging and accesible reader. This is a great introduction to the Magic School Bus program."
