We survived the Book Fair!!!
Book Fair is always an exciting, stressful, and busy, busy, busy time of year. Our fair was a big success, and we reached our goal for sales by Thursday morning! Book Fairs are so important for us, since our budget for books is so small. These fairs earn us more money to buy more books! That's something I get really excited about!
Well, I said the last two weeks' posts were going to be Book Fair books, but it looks like we're actually going to have three weeks of Book Fair books, because I bought more books! Here are this week's additions...
New Picture Books

New Chapter Books
Battle Bugs: The Lizard War by Jack Patton. This is the first book in the Battle Bugs series.
"Budding entomologist Max Darwin makes a wish—and finds himself on Bug Island, where the local insects are threatened by an invasion of hungry reptiles and amphibians. With little preliminary ado, Patton hands his young protagonist a fascinating old insect encyclopedia and a very special magnifying glass that shrinks him to proper size and plunks him down amid Bug Island's beleaguered arthropods. It seems a volcanic eruption has laid a land bridge between the island and the neighboring Reptilian Empire—allowing a horde of insect-eating creatures led by roaring Gen. Komodo to cross over.
Can Max use his big brain to find a way to save new friends Barton, a titan beetle, genial emperor scorpion Spike, shy trap-door spider Webster, and the rest of the island's diverse cast of six- or eight-legged residents from becoming a buggy banquet? And will he be able to get back to his original size and home? That would be yes and yes—following plenty of furious but fatality-free fighting and some ingenious further bridge building that puts a river between the bugs and their scaly nemeses. But the war's not over yet; stay tuned for return visits in two planned sequels. Finished illustrations not seen, but in samples, Bean draws Max as a dark-skinned, black-haired boy. Furnished with a light wash of natural science, a buggy, action-oriented adventure that goes light on the gore and gross bits. (Fantasy. 8-10)" -Kirkus Reviews
The Puppy Place: Sugar, Gummi, and Lollipop by Ellen Miles. This book will interest students from grades 2-5, and it is on a 3rd grade reading level. This is book 40 in The Puppy Place series!
"Staying at her friend Maria’s family cabin means Lizzie must abide by the Santiagos’ rules: no candy for the whole weekend. It sounds tough, but luckily, she’s in for something even sweeter. There’s a box of three adorable, tiny puppies on the cabin porch! With no one else around to take care of them, Lizzie, Maria, and the Santiagos take on the task of keeping these pooches in line. The three pups love each other so much, Lizzie can’t dream of ever separating them. But who could possibly adopt three tiny puppies at once?" -Image and blurb from Scholastic.com

Twenty-six poems bookended by an opening and closing poem feature dogs whose monikers generally stem from their looks, behavior traits, or personalities–Bandit, Chewy, Whiskers. Each poem represents a different type of dog, some common, some less so, and one “mixed breed/mutt” named Snickers.
