New Book Tuesdays: Week 23

Check out what's new in the Media Center this week...

New Picture Books

Buddy and Earl Go Exploring by Maureen Fergus. This is the 2nd book in the Buddy and Earl series. The students all adored the 1st book. This one is also a Junior Library Guild Selection.

Buddy and Earl are safely tucked in for the night; Buddy on his blanket and Earl in his cage. But just as Buddy settles in for a nice, long sleep, Earl says it’s time to say “Bon voyage.”

Soon these mismatched pals are at it again, exploring the wilds of the kitchen and defending a lovely lady hedgehog — who may or may not be Mom’s hairbrush — from imminent danger. When they’ve finally vanquished the greatest monster of all — the vacuum cleaner — it’s time for some well-earned shut-eye.

This second book in the Buddy and Earl series reunites this odd and loveable animal couple: a dog who likes to play by the rules and a hedgehog who knows no limits.

Side by Side by Rachel Bright & Debi Gliori.

"A little mouse finds a best friend to stay by her side! Deep in the heart of Wintermouse Wood, Down in the grass where the autumn trees stood, Lived all kinds of creatures -- some big and some small -- Some spiky, some furry, some short, and some tall. Follow one little mouseling and her search for a best friend to stay by her side in this joyful read-aloud bedtime book -- the perfect celebration of friendship." -GoodReads.com

Bink & Gollie by Kate DiCamillo and Allison McGhee. I love Kate DiCamillo's book so much. I think it's time the students were exposed to this one. This book is a Theodor Geisel Award winner.

See the book trailer below...

"Meet Bink and Gollie, two precocious little girls — one tiny, one tall, and both utterly irrepressible. Setting out from their super-deluxe tree house and powered by plenty of peanut butter (for Bink) and pancakes (for Gollie), they share three comical adventures involving painfully bright socks, an impromptu trek to the Andes, and a most unlikely marvelous companion. No matter where their roller skates take them, at the end of the day they will always be the very best of friends." -BinkAndGollie.com

New Nonfiction Books

Awesome Dogs: Dachshunds. These are the last two books in the Awesome Dogs series. They have been very popular.

These short, long dogs were bred for the burrows. Instinctive diggers and protectors, Dachshunds should not be left alone outdoors. Instead, give them a pile of blankets to explore in your home. Hang with these hounds in this interesting title for reluctant readers.

These small lap dogs will warm your heart. French Bulldogs are a charming and adaptable breed, demanding a little bit of love and a lot of air conditioning. If you aren’t giving him enough attention, he will calmly tap you with a paw. Learn to love the quiet and cool Frenchie in this beginner book.
